Fix it, build it, learn it.

Kitchen

Kitchen problems usually start under the sink. A sink that won’t drain, a garbage disposal that hums or a slow drip from the trap are all jobs you can fix with a bucket, a wrench and the right video. Unclog a drain and Fix a leak under the sink are the place to start.

Replacing a faucet or installing a dishwasher is a step up. Shut off the water at the fixture valves first, and keep the old parts until the new ones are tested for leaks.

Anything involving the electrical side, such as a hardwired disposal or dishwasher, a new circuit or a GFCI outlet, needs the breaker off and a voltage tester before you touch it, and in many places a permit. A gas range or gas line is always a job for a licensed gas fitter. See when to call a licensed pro.
