Drywall
Drywall is the most forgiving system in the house. Mistakes sand off, and nothing here can shock you or flood the basement. That makes it the best place to learn. Start with Patch a hole in drywall, and use our guide to which patch fits which hole.
The videos here go from a single small patch to a full level 5 finish. Home RenoVision DIY’s three-hole lesson covers the tape sandwich, the California patch and repair clips. His level 5 test compares traditional mud with a newer compound that stays workable as it dries.
Two safety notes. Check for wires and pipes before you cut into a wall. And in an older home, test before you sand: lead paint is more likely before 1978 in the US, and Health Canada lists drywall and spackling among materials that may contain asbestos in homes built before 1990.
