These terms cover your use of Renovation Videos (this site). They are short on purpose. If you do not agree with them, please do not use the site.
Who runs this site
Renovation Videos is run by WebFoundry, 119 Spadina Avenue, Toronto, Ontario. In these terms, “we” and “us” mean WebFoundry. You can reach us on the Contact page.
What this site is
Renovation Videos collects how-to videos for home repair and DIY projects, with written guides that sort them by job, room and skill level. It does not host the videos. It points to them, embeds them from YouTube and adds context.
The videos belong to their creators
Every video on this site is embedded from YouTube and belongs to the channel that published it. We do not own them, and we do not claim to. When you press play, the video plays from YouTube under YouTube’s terms and the creator’s rights. Video titles, descriptions and thumbnails belong to the creators too. If you made a video shown here and want it taken down, or you think we have credited it wrongly, tell us on the Contact page and we will look at it promptly.
Our written content
The text on this site that we wrote (summaries, guides, event and topic pages, and the choice and order of videos) is copyright WebFoundry. You may:
- read it and share links to it;
- quote short excerpts for commentary, teaching or news, with credit and a link back to the page;
- print a page for your own use.
Please do not copy whole pages, republish our content elsewhere, or scrape the site in bulk without asking first. Pictures on this site have their own licences. Each one is credited on the Photo credits page, and you must follow those licences if you reuse a picture.
Safety: read this before you pick up a tool
Renovation Videos is information, not professional advice. Home repair can injure or kill you, and it can damage your home. Nobody on this site has seen your house, your wiring, your pipes or your skills.
- Electrical, gas and structural work needs a licensed professional. That means work on service panels and circuits, gas lines and appliances, load-bearing walls, beams, roofs and chimneys. In most places a permit and an inspection are also required. Hire a licensed tradesperson and ask your local authority what applies.
- Codes differ by country, province, state and city. A video may be filmed where the rules are different from yours. A method that is legal in one place can be illegal or unsafe in another. Check your local building and electrical codes before you start.
- Videos are made by other people. We link to them because they are useful, but we do not test the methods, and some show shortcuts, missing safety gear or work that would not pass inspection. A video appearing here is not a recommendation to copy it.
- Do the basics every time. Turn off and lock out power, water or gas at the source and test that it is off. Wear the right protective gear. Check for asbestos, lead paint and mould in older homes before you cut, sand or demolish. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for every tool and product.
- If you are unsure, stop and call a professional.
You use the guides and videos at your own risk. To the extent the law allows, we are not responsible for injury, damage or loss that results from following anything on this site.
Accuracy and corrections
We work to be accurate, and we explain how in How we check facts. Some text starts as a software-generated draft from a video’s transcript. We can be wrong, and information changes. We do not promise that anything here is complete, current or error-free.
If you find a mistake, tell us on the Contact page. Say which page and what is wrong, and a source if you have one. We correct confirmed errors and note significant changes.
Links to other sites
This site links to YouTube, official reports, agencies, photo sources and other sites we do not control. We are not responsible for their content, accuracy or privacy practices. A link is not an endorsement.
Limits on our responsibility
This site is free and provided “as is”, with no promises that it will always be available, accurate or suitable for what you want to do.
To the extent the law allows, WebFoundry is not liable for any loss, injury or damage that comes from using this site or relying on it, including loss caused by a video, a link or a mistake. If the law does not allow a limit that is written here, that limit does not apply to you, and the rest still does. Nothing in these terms limits any right you have under consumer or privacy law that cannot be waived.
Changes to these terms
We may change these terms. The “Last updated” date at the top shows the current version. If you keep using the site after a change, you accept the new version.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Ontario, Canada, and the courts there. If you are a consumer elsewhere, any mandatory rights you have where you live still apply.
