Privacy policy

This page explains what happens to your information when you visit Renovation Videos. The short version: we do not ask you for any, and we do not track you.

The short version

  • No accounts, comments, forms or newsletter. We do not ask visitors for a name or an email address.
  • No analytics, no advertising and no tracking scripts.
  • No cookies set by this site for visitors.
  • Videos load from YouTube only when you press play.
  • Our server keeps ordinary logs, described below.

Who is responsible

WebFoundry, 119 Spadina Avenue, Toronto, Ontario, is responsible for the personal information handled on this site. Questions or requests: [contact email], or see the Contact page.

What we collect

Server logs. Like any web server, the one that hosts this site records each request: your IP address, the date and time, the page asked for, the browser and device type your browser reports, and the page that sent you here, if any. We use the logs to keep the site running, to find errors and to block abuse. We do not use them to build profiles of visitors. We keep them for [log retention period].

Search. The search box on this site is run by the site itself. What you type is used to find pages, and it is not sent to any outside search or analytics service. A search term appears in the page address, so it can also appear in the server logs above.

What we do not collect. The site has no sign-up, no comment form, no contact form and no newsletter, so we do not collect names, email addresses or messages through the site. If you email us, we get your email address and what you write, and we use it only to reply and to deal with your request.

Only the people who run the site have accounts on it, and their log-in is separate from anything described here.

Videos and YouTube

Videos on this site play from YouTube. A page shows a picture of the video that is stored on this site, not loaded from YouTube. Nothing is requested from YouTube or Google until you press play. When you do, your browser loads a YouTube player from youtube-nocookie.com, Google’s privacy-enhanced embed address. From that moment YouTube and Google receive your request, including your IP address and details about your browser, and they handle it under their own policies. Google describes what it does in its Privacy Policy, and YouTube’s rules are in the YouTube Terms of Service. We do not control that, and we do not receive that data.

Some pages have “Watch on YouTube” links. They are ordinary links: nothing is sent to YouTube unless you follow one.

Cookies

This site does not set cookies for visitors, and it does not use local storage to track you. Because of that, there is no cookie banner.

When you press play on a video, YouTube may set its own cookies or use similar storage, under Google’s policy above. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. If you do not want YouTube to see you, do not press play and use the “Watch on YouTube” link only if you are happy to open YouTube.

WordPress, the software behind the site, sets cookies only for people who log in to run the site. Visitors do not see them.

Other services

VideoVault service. The site owner uses a service called VideoVault to find YouTube videos and prepare the written content. It handles public information about videos, such as titles, descriptions and transcripts, and the site owner’s settings. It is not part of loading a page for you: no visitor data, IP addresses, search terms or page views are sent to it.

Search engines. The site can tell search engines such as Bing the address of a new public page (a protocol called IndexNow). This sends page addresses only, never anything about visitors.

Fonts and images. Fonts and pictures are served from this site. We do not load them from outside providers.

Where information is kept

The site is hosted on a server in [hosting location]. Logs and any email you send us are handled there and by our email provider, [email provider]. If you are not in that country, your information may be handled outside the country where you live.

Your rights

You have the right to ask what personal information we hold about you, to ask us to correct it, and to ask us to delete it, and to withdraw consent where we rely on it. Under Canada’s privacy law (PIPEDA) you can also complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada. If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you also have the right to object to our handling of your information and to complain to your local data protection authority. Our reason for keeping server logs is a legitimate interest in running and protecting the site.

To make a request, write to [contact email]. We may need to confirm who you are. We will reply within 30 days.

Changes

If we change how the site handles information, we will update this page and its “Last updated” date. For the rules of using the site, see our Terms of use.
